Old House, Surrey

We were appointed by the owner of The Old House to restore plaster panels on the oldest part of the property, which is the staircase. We started by removing wallpaper and modern fillers, leaving the original lime plaster intact. This removal uncovered some 16th century fictive panelling, which was restored and remains visible. In addition, the ceiling laths at the head of the stair were found to be rotten where a flat ceiling had been installed. The ceiling and laths were removed, and it was decided that a vaulted ceiling replacewould  the previous flat ceiling to showcase the beautiful staircase. The ceiling was re-lathed and plastered between the beams.
